Sir Shambling's Deep Soul Heaven

Rose Davis came from the Crescent City and her first release Sittin' And Drinking is a tough blues of considerable merit really suiting her powerful direct voice. The 45 was picked up by Excello but the bigger company failed to break it. Her other release for the Nashville based concern was a superb version of fellow Nola artists Danny White's enduring blues ballad Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye Davis' straightforward singing fits the 12/8 tempo well over a super backdrop of piano and bluesy lead guitar and some very fine strings.

It's possible that veteran New Orleans writer/singer Tommy Ridgely - who produced these cuts at Knight Studios, Metairie LA - might have owned the Play label as well.
