When I first heard this obscure New York ballad I thought it might be the work of the Brooklyn based Little David. But his son, Mike, assures me that it is a different artist altogether, so there must have been two fine singers called Little David active around the Big Apple in the 60s. The dancers have shown some interest in the B side but Call On Me is a gentle ballad that grows on you the more you hear it. I particularly like the well modulated lead vocal and the subdued horns as well as. The occasional interjections from the background singers work really well too. The tiny Symphony label was owned by Ernie Maresca and has a Yonkers address.
