In the 60s it sometimes seems that New York produced as much southern styled soul music as any of the studios below the Mason-Dixon line. This beauty from Channie Blanchfield is a case in point. The accompaniment is superbly judged – just the right combination of guitars, keyboards and horns for my taste. And of course Channie’s deep smoky tones are just right – especially the gravelly touches she bring in on the bridge. The only pity is that this would seems to be the only disc she made. Full credit to Harold Thomas for co-writing, arranging and producing this 45.
