Cynthia was owned by rockabilly artist Mack Allen Smith in Memphis, who had a strong affinity to R & B throughout his career. Like his label mate Cleveland Davis (despite the latter’s misspelt “Cyntha”), Larry Blakely only had just this one 45 issued. Born Loser is a funky little opus with a bluesy groove, but I prefer the plaintive gentle ballad Loneliest Man In The World. This features Blakely and a small band with some fine background singers – special tip of the hat to the tasteful guitarist.
