Sir Shambling's Deep Soul Heaven

sad manThis great obscurity hails from Columbus, OH and it really ought to be much better appreciated. After a flurry from a tenor sax the lead singer (Bishop?) comes in hard and strong over a churchy organ. Lovely slow pace to the song and the occasional horn blasts add to the mix very well. The two background singers (DeForest Wallace – the producer? And writer Walter Wallace?) are good too. But the best part of this funereal dirge is the run out groove when the whole thing comes together and the testifying is really effective.
