Sir Shambling's Deep Soul Heaven

espritThis 45 wasn’t made by the more famous New Orleans group, nor any of the other several sets of Barons, but rather it appears to have been the sole release by an Atlanta GA based outfit. On This Earth is a fine deep soul piece, sung with real feeling by a lovely light tenor vocalist (writer George A Logan?) whose falsetto phrases are particularly effective. The background singers are rather too submerged in the mix, unlike the well arranged horns. But the badly out of tune trumpeter rather spoils this aspect of the track sadly.

The other 45 on Esprit that is really well worth hearing is the rare one by Ray Jenning.
