Although there only seem to have been a couple of 45s on Sam Motley’s Detroit based Hit Pack label, both the excellent Joe Woods and this one are well worth picking up – if you can find them. Your Love Was So Wonderful sure sounds like a Motor City recording with all those strings, tinkling piano and tambourine/drum combination but what lifts it from run-of-the-mill status and onto these pages is Sonny’s voice. That gritty tone, those gruff phrases and falsetto whoops do it for me every time. The famous producer/arranger Mike Terry was the man behind this one. File next to Darrell Banks and David Ruffin.
