The only 45 on the obscure Walas label out of Durham, NC is this splendid effort from Nick Allen. Don't Make Me Be What You Don't Want Me To Be is a long time fave of the deep soul community – and rightly so. Nick’s tone is desperate as he pleads with his woman, accompanied by a horn rich backing and some strong female harmonies. Love the changes in tempo.
